A game that was tightly contested through two innings quickly became a runaway last night in Knoxville, as the Pella Christian softball team defeated the host Panthers 13-0 in five innings. The Lady Eagles started putting runs on the board with a series of singles scattered throughout the infield, tallying 15 total hits.

Offensively, Pella Christian was led by Shelby Weaver and Ashley Van Kooten, who each went 3-for-4, and combined for five RBIs. Knoxville struggled at the plate, picking up just two hits on the evening, but Panthers’ Head Coach Steph Christner said the lack of offense wasn’t what cost her team the game, as six errors allowed the Lady Eagles to extend scoring rallies when the inning should have been over.

Pella Christian’s Paige Blom earned the win with a six strikeout, two walk shutout. Knoxville’s Jessica Stickel took the loss on the night. The Lady Eagles are now 4-2 and travel to Oskaloosa this evening for another Little Hawkeye Conference contest. Knoxville, meanwhile is 3-4 overall now and faces PCM tonight in non-conference play.
