The Pella Christian softball team split a pair of non-conference games at home last night against Washington; winning the first game by a narrow margin, while being on the short end of a lopsided affair in game two.

The Lady Eagles picked up six hits in game one, led by Heather Van Sant – who went 2-for-3 with a run scored – and Ashley Van Kooten; whose double knocked in two runs. Paige Blom pitched a complete seven-inning game, allowing seven hits, while strking out nine and walking six batters as Pella Christian defeated Washington 4-3.

The nightcap of the doubleheader was a much different story for Pella Christian. Starting the game with Amber Sneller in the pitching circle, the Lady Eagles gave up four runs in each of the game’s first two innings and never recovered. Sneller walked seven batters in 1 1/3 innings pitched, while Shannon Fynaardt allowed ten more Washington runs in 2 2/3 innings, as Pella Christian was routed 18-1 in 4 innings.
Making matters worse, the Lady Eagles were held to just 3 hits in the loss.

Pella Christian is now 17-7 overall going into a big home contest tonight with Pella High. You can hear that game broadcast live tonight on 92.1 fm KRLS with Eric Gotschall providing the play-by-play. Varsity action from Pella Christian High School begins at approximately 7:30 tonight.
