The Pella girls soccer team is one win away from a return to the State Tournament, following last night’s 3-0 defeat of Grinnell in the Region 6 Semifinals. In a hard-fought, physical first half, Pella’s Makenzie Vander Molen scored in the 34th minute, followed by an Allie DeMeulenaere goal on a Mariah Vande Lune assist with just seven seconds left in the first period.

Up 2-0 at intermission, the Lady Dutch tacked on one more goal in the second half, as Vander Molen added her second goal of the game on a Caroline Phillips assist. Pella outshot Grinnell 17-6 for the match, with a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal. T

he physical play by both sides did result in a total of 18 fouls whistled between the two teams, though no cautions or send-offs were recorded. With the win, the Pella girls advance to the Regional Finals, where the No. 12-ranked Lady Dutch will face No. 3 Union of Laporte City on Monday in Grinnell.
