Pella and Knoxville split a double header last night in baseball. Knoxville took game one 7-4 behind six strong innings from Kellen Glover on the mound. Blake McWilliams went two-for-four with two stolen bases and an R-B-I while Pella’s Mark Frommelt was two-for-three. Skylar Kane took the loss for the Little Dutch in game one. In game two, Frommelt singled in Taylor Cox in the bottom of the seventh to plate the winning run and take the nightcap 9-8. The Little Dutch had an 8-6 lead and Knoxville down to its final strike when Jamie VanderVeer was hit by the pit, Justin Katich reached on an error that brought home two runs to tie the game at eight. Pella Coach Aaron Resland said he knew when the game was tied his team would pull it out.

Knoxville Coach Steve Mott knew his pitching would get a test. However he adds, at this point of the season everybody’s pitching staff is little banged up. Brett Kingery got the win for Pella in the second game going just two innings of relief for starter Ryan Lanke who pitched five solid innings walking just two and striking out five. Lance Daugherty took the loss for Knoxville pitching 2 2/3 innings. Knoxville will travel to Pella Christian tonight, a game you can hear live on AM 1320 KNIA at 7:30 or catch a the re-broadcast on 92.1 KRLS following the Pella and Pella Christian softball game.
