Red Rock Continues to Rise
Posted By News On June 25, 2010 @ 6:25 am In Today’s Local News | Comments Disabled
While no rainfall in the past 24 hours has provided a much needed reprieve locally, it has not stopped the rise of the water level at Lake Red Rock. As of 6:00 a.m. Friday morning, the conservation pool had risen roughly two inches since Thursday to 776.77 feet, and is expected to rise almost a half-foot by Friday.
The latest report from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers did, however, estimate a reduction of the in-flow to 41,000 cubic feet per second, while the out-flow at the dam remains at 40,000 cubic feet per second. Lake Red Rock is expected to crest at around 778 feet on Sunday.
Howell Station Campground will be closed until further notice due to river levels. The North and South Tailwater Recreation Areas below the dam remain open at this time.
Boat ramps that are currently open include those at the Whitebreast Recreation Area, Marina Cove and Elk Rock State Park (just off of Highway 14) for lake access, and Howell Station Landing for river access below the dam. Please note that parking areas at the Marina Cove ramp are very limited during times of high water.
The North Overlook and Whitebreast Beaches are closed.
