Sunday’s powerful overnight and morning storms caused damage to buildings, power outages and high river levels in Marion County. According to MidAmerican Energy, 808 customers in the county were without power Sunday morning, including 800 in the city of Knoxville. The outage affected the square in Knoxville and traffic lights on and near the square as well, so four way stop signs were put in place to help control traffic. In addition, a grain bin at the Clark family residence, at 2309 78th Ave near Columbia, rolled and was tossed over 400 feet. The storm dumped 1.1″ of rain on the area, breaking the 1935 June rainfall record of 12.79″ by 1.01″ as we have received a total of 13.8″ so far this month. As of 5:00 this morning the English Creek near Knoxville was 1.6 feet above its flood bank of 17 feet and the South Skunk River near Oskaloosa is 3.84 feet above flood level.
