Knoxville Fire and Rescue, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Clay Township Fire and Rescue, Methodist Life Flight and Mercy One helicopter responded to a report of multiple personal injury accident at the 1700 block of T17 around 5:45 Friday morning.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a red 1995 Geo Prizm driven by 30 year-old Jeremy Glenn Smith of Centerville was northbound on T17 when he crossed center line and traveled northbound in the southbound lane. A white 1998 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 23 year-old Amanda Ann Bridgman of Oskaloosa was heading southbound on T17 when it attempted to avoid the accident, but the two vehicles collided head on, coming to rest in opposite ditches. As a result, 27 year-old Curtis James Temple II of Centerville and 51 year-old David Keith Burton of Exline, who were both passengers in Smith’s vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. Smith was transported to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines via Mercy One helicopter and Bridgman was transported by Knoxville Fire and Rescue to the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics and later flown to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines via Methodist Life Flight, both are listed in fair condition.

T17 from old highway 92 south to Pierce was closed for approximately four hours as a result of the accident.  The Iowa State Patrol and Marion County Sheriff’s Office says the accident remains under investigation and charges are pending at this time.
