Candidate for Iowa governor Bob Vander Plaats was in Pella Wednesday evening. The Republican from Sioux City spoke to several dozen interested residents and supporters at the Pella Community Center and shared his plans for the office of governor. Vander Plaats told KNIA/KRLS News that his experience and values align with what the citizens of Iowa are telling him they want in a leader.

“I have real-life experience in education, health care, human services, business and industry; and I think that’s what they’re looking for today,” said Vander Plaats. “And they want somebody who really understands the constitution, and is willing to defend our freedom as well – as it relates to holding the Federal government in check, and holding the out-of-control Supreme Court in check.”

The gubernatorial hopeful also had many positive things to say about Pella.

“I think Pella is one of those communities that should really be highlighted as a model community. Great business, great industry, great service, great amenities, and just great people who celebrate their heritage in an amazing way.”

Vander Plaats is one of three Republican frontrunners that are facing each other in the June 8th primary election.
