Around 125 people gathered as one of Marion County’s great sprint car drivers was honored in his hometown this morning. The “Earl Wagner Thanks for the Memories” mural in Pleasantville was officially dedicated at 11:00 today. Wagner passed away in 2009 and is a 2008 inductee of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. Friend and race fan Butch Smith says Wagner was the “man to beat” at the Knoxville Raceway during his driving days. The dedication festivities will be followed by Earl Wagner Mural Night tonight at the Knoxville Raceway.
