Pella Christian’s Kyle Nikkel has spent his summer travelling all over the country playing basketball for the Iowa Barnstormers AAU club. Most recently Nikkel and his Barnstormer teammates travelled to Las Vegas to compete in the Las Vegas Fab 48, an invitation only tournament featuring the top 48 AAU teams in the country. The Barnstormers proved to be among the elite as they beat teams from Texas, Utah, Washington, Michigan and New York and earned a berth in the championship game where they fell to a team from Oakland, California coached by Drew Gooden. The tournament drew attention from numerous NCAA Division One coaches, and even NBA stars including Lebron James, who was in attendance for the championship game.

The Barnstormers roster consists of players mostly from the Cedar Rapids area including three players that have already signed to play at the Division one level.

Other highlights of their season included tournament wins in Wisconsin, Iowa City, Minneapoils, and the Iowa AAU State Championship.

This was Nikkel’s fourth and final season with the Barnstormers. He now returns to Pella and will quickly switch modes to football as he prepares for his senior season at Pella Christian.
