The Knoxville City Council approved the purchase of a new patrol car for the Police Department at their meeting Tuesday. Pella Motors submitted the lowest bid at $20,296.99, below the state’s bid from Karl Chevrolet in Ankeny. Police Chief Dan Losada says the department missed the cutoff date to have the car built specifically for them. He says in the past General Motors has built an ample supply of extra patrol cars but that was not the case this year. Therefore, the car will have to be striped and equipped which will cost approximately $6,000, bringing the total price of the vehicle up to around $26,300. The department had $26,000 budgeted for the purchase and typically one new patrol car is bought each year.
