The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is predicting another surge of water to make its way toward Lake Red Rock, and have pushed the anticipated crest of the lake back to late Wednesday afternoon. The latest forecast calls for an in-flow of up to 59,000 cubic feet per second between Tuesday and Wednesday, while the reservoir is expected to crest at just over 779 feet at around 5:00 p.m. Wednesday.

The current in-flow and out-flow rates are nearly equal – right at around 50,000 cubic feet per second apiece. As of 5:00 a.m. Monday, Lake Red Rock’s water level was at 778.76 feet and had risen just slightly in the past 24 hours.

In a related story, Marion County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Anderson tells KNIA/KRLS News that the threat of rising waters led to the voluntary evacuation of three full-time residences and approximately seven weekend cabins below the dam. Further downstream, a levee was breached at the Des Moines River and Highway 92. Highway 92 remains open.
