Two residents each from Tracy and Pella, along with a Pella organization were among 261 Iowans honored Friday morning at the Governor’s Volunteer Awards ceremony in Ankeny. Those recognized from Pella included Kelley Dooley and Janna Hammes, as well as the Crossroads of Pella Organization. Dooley and Hammes were nominated by Rachel Manuel with the Iowa Campus Compact, and Crossroads of Pella was nominated for the award by Kris Thompson, from the Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP).
Governor Culver also recognized Sharon Lopez and Sally Clark of Tracy for their efforts as volunteers. Lopez and Clark were each nominated by David Roby of the Twin Cedars school district. The volunteers were honored at a ceremony held Friday morning in Ankeny – which was the second of four ceremonies being held around the state this summer that is recognizing a total of 785 individuals and organizations with the Governor’s Volunteer Awards.
Iowa was recently ranked second in the nation in volunteerism by a report from the Corporation for National and Community Service.
