Unemployment in Marion County rose slightly in June, after dipping below the statewide average in May. According to data released Tuesday by Iowa Workforce Development, Marion County’s unemployment rate rose three-tenths of a percent to 6.8 percent last month. The increase in unemployment rates was part of a trend amongst several counties in south central Iowa. Marion County’s 6.8 percent unemployment rate is equal to the statewide average, and compares to a 9.5 percent national jobless rate for the month of June.
