One Knoxville business was recognized for its hard work reducing air emissions and waste sent to landfills at this year’s Environmental Excellence Award luncheon last week. The Knoxville 3M plant was one of eleven Iowa businesses honored for their outstanding contributions to the environment. The plant was chosen for the award based on the implementation of their Pollution Prevention Pays program which was launched in 1975. Since the program began, the company has reduced air, water and solid waste pollutants by 123 million pounds across the state and has saved more than $39 million. Plant Manager Greg Couves says the company’s environmental success comes as a result of the everyday voluntary efforts of their employees. The awards were presented at a luncheon at the Honey Creek Resort State Park on June 28th.
