Knoxville Baseball Wins 5-3 Over Independence in State Tournament

The Knoxville High School baseball team’s goal of becoming the class 3A state champions is still alive after their win against Independence this afternoon. The Panthers beat the Independence Mustangs 5-3 in the opening round of the state tournament and are now 25-9 on the season. Knoxville will face fourth seed Charles City (21-13) in round two Friday at noon at Principal Park in Des Moines. Tune into the daily sports page during the Marion County Morning Magazine at 7:30am for a full recap of yesterday’s game.

Friday’s pre-game coverage with Derek Cardwell will begin at 11:45am on KNIA/KRLS, following a special Marion County Midday Magazine at 11:00.
