Clouds of smoke could be seen billowing south of Knoxville yesterday morning as firefighters from the Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department conducted training exercises. Two old and unsalvageable buildings were burned at the Marion County Care Facility. One small outbuilding was burned to teach interior fire attack tactics, and a larger barn was burned to teach general firefighting. Knoxville Rural Fire Chief Kenny Thompson says that these kinds of training opportunities allow new firefighters a chance to learn basic skills, and veteran firefighters a chance to refresh their knowledge. Knoxville Fire and Rescue and the Marion County Sheriff’s office were on scene to provide support if needed.
