With five days and at least 350 miles behind him, Brian Kendall is holding up just fine in his RAGBRAI debut. The Knoxville resident, and employee of Ulrich Motors of Pella, said he felt good Thursday afternoon – which he credits some to a good night of sleep – adding that his neighbors at the camp site made Wednesday evening interesting.

“We were camped right between two great big campers, and I got a great night’s sleep – seven hours. One of the gentlemen that had one of the big campers was kind of an interesting fellow, he was a doctor of some sort from Canada and was down here riding his bicycle,” said Kendall. “In the other camper on the other side was a gentleman from Pella, and then two campers away was someone from Tracy that’s actually related to my wife’s family. So there have been lots of ties up here on RAGBRAI to our part of the state.”

Kendall began Thursday’’s route by leaving Charles City, and said the route included a memorable stop to speak with community members in Parkersburg, before continuing on toward Waterloo. Friday’s route is another 62 miles and will take riders from Waterloo to Manchester. For an update on Brian Kendall’s progress on RAGBRAI, tune in for a special early edition of the Marion County Midday Magazine at 11:00 a.m. Friday morning.
