An old building in Columbia that used to serve as the center of community activity and a place to share information will soon be torn down. The old McCorkle Hardware Store building across from the Columbia Community Center has fallen into disrepair over the last few years and will be demolished next week. According to local historian and Columbia Fire Chief John Pierce the store was the place in Columbia where shoppers could find everything from buggies and horse collars to windmills and had all the supplies a small farmer would ever need. McCorkle Hardware moved to its current location in the 1990s and the location of the old building will be used as a parking lot for the time being, with hopes of another business taking its place in the future.
