12 local athletes from the Pella Atletieks Track and Field Club competed in 19 events at last weekend’s USA Track and Field Region 8 Championships held at Simpson College in Indianola, and 10 of the 12 athletes advanced to the USATF National Junior Olympics.

Athletes that are moving on the Nationals include Jordan Pingel who placed first in the youth boys pentathlon, Trevor Argo who was second in the youth boys pentathlon, Kenny DuPre was third in the intermediate boys 110 meter hurdles, Wade Pingel was third in the intermediate boys pole vault and third in the 1500 meters, Tanner Phelps was third in the youth boys 200 meter hurdles, Ashley Blommers was second in the sub bantam girls 400 meters, Kelcey Blommers was third in the midget girls 800 meters, and the midget girls 4×400 relay team of Tess Roorda, Kjersten Pingel, Annika Pingel and Kelcey Blommers were third.

To qualify for the Nationals, athletes had to place in the top three of their event and multi event athletes had to place in the top two.

The Regional meet included teams from Iowa, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Nebraska and Wisconsin. The USATF National Junior Olympics will be held July 27-August 1st in Sacramento, California.
