The Pella baseball team may have been caught looking ahead to Friday’s District Tournament opener, as the Little Dutch dropped a pair of games at Centerville last night to close out the regular season.

The Big Red routed the Little Dutch 12-2 in five innings for the first game of the Varsity doubleheader, with Pella starting pitcher Schyler Kane getting roughed up for nine earned runs on nine hits. Kane recorded three strikeouts and four walks as well. Taylor Cox was the only player to record more than one hit in game one, as he went 2-for-2 at the plate.

The Little Dutch started the second game much stronger, jumping out to a 4-0 lead to start the game, but faltered late and allowed Centerville to out-score them 8-to-1 down the stretch in an 8-5 loss. Chris Bandstra went 2-for-3 at the plate in the second game, while pitcher Paul Anderson took the loss. Anderson struck out seven and walked three batters, but was touched for ten hits and six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings of work.

The losses dropped the Pella baseball team to an overall mark of 11-16 going into Friday’s District Tournament first round game against Carlisle in Pella.
