Pella will hold its annual 4th of July celebration Saturday. In a day that features activities spanning from 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., highlights include fishing at Sunken Gardens Park, children’s rides in Central Park and “Art in the Park” to start the day at 9:30 a.m.

From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. games and activities will take place in Central Park, including frog jumping contests, pony rides and a dunk tank, among others. Tours of the Scholte House and Vermeer Mill will also take place during that time.

Pella’s 4th of July parade – which will include the KNIA/KRLS Big Red Radio – begins at 2:30 p.m., and event chair Kay DeCook says will be a little different this year to try and make the parade safer.

“We’re implementing a new activity this year, and there will be no candy thrown from parade units, but we’ll have people walking along-side,” says DeCook. “We were hoping that people and parents keep their children from running out in the streets close to the floats and stay back near the parks.”

The parade will be followed by musical entertainment in Central Park from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the evening. Pella’s fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m. east of Madison Elementary School.
