Pella Christian softball pitcher Paige Blom is well known for her skills in the pitching circle, but while the number of opposing batters who have been retired by Blom is certainly impressive, it’s the strike-outs Blom didn’t have that set a new record this year for the Lady Eagles. Instead, she set a new record for fewest strikeouts in a season – as a batter. In nearly 100 at bats this season, Blom was retired on strikes just once. The single strikeout was the fewest in a season since the previous record of three strikeouts was set in 1981. Since then, three other Pella Christian softball players had tied the mark.
