For the past several years, the words conference champs, and Pella softball were never even mentioned in the same sentence…until this year.

The Pella softball team picked up another win last night beating Newton 1-0 and are now just one win away from changing that and earning a share of the LHC title with Pella Christian. Mandy Demeulenaere pitched the distance and allowed just four total baserunners on three hits and a walk while striking out four.

Pella also honored their lone senior, catcher Whitney Pavlat on senior night, and Pavlat came up with a huge defensive play to end the game and ice the win as she caught a pop up behind the plate then gunned down the runner at first for a double play, very fitting for the five year starter.

Pella improved to 18-9 overall and 10-3 in the LHC and will play their final regular season game at Knoxville today, a varsity only game starting at 2pm. With a win, Pella will win a share of the LHC title. The Lady Dutch then start post season play tomorrow night at Centerville. You can hear today’s game live with Eric Gotschall on kiniakrls.com at 2pm. There will also be a delayed broadcast of the game on 92.1 FM KRLS later tonight following the Knoxville vs Pella baseball game.
