A major reason for the big turnaround in Pella softball this season was the improved play of their defense. The team cut down on their errors considerably committing just 65 errors on the season and ended the season with a .929 team fielding percentage. Coach Krista Demeulenaere says the main reason for that is the belief and confidence they have in each other which is something they haven’t had so much in the past. Another area of success for Pella according to coach Demeulenaere was how much they improved in the bunting area of the game, both fielding and laying down a bunt at the plate when needed. She says in past years Pella struggled fielding bunts but this year made vast imporovements and she notes that when asked, every player at one time or another laid down a successful bunt at a crucial time of a game. Pella finished their season with 20-10 overall record and they lose just one senior, catcher Whitney Pavlat.
