For the thousands of cyclists on this year’s 38th annual RAGBRAI ride, yesterday marked the halfway point of the 450-mile route from one side of Iowa to the other. Among those riders is Knoxville resident Brian Kendall, who is taking part in his first RAGBRAI ride. Kendall says despite a little muscle soreness and some slightly sunburned skin, he feels pretty good about the ride so far.

A new rider’s language and cycling etiquette code are among the things Kendall says he has learned on the trip so far, which stopped overnight last night in Charles City. Today, the fifth stage of the route will take riders south through Butler and Grundy counties before travelling back east to finish the 82-mile segment in Waterloo.

For an update on Brian Kendall’s progress, tune into the local newscast during tomorrow’s Marion County Midday Magazine at noon.
