The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team provided wall-to-wall storm coverage early this morning as Marion County was under two different tornado warnings and multiple severe thunderstorm warnings from just after 3:00 until 4:45am. Area campgrounds were evacuated as a result of the tornado warnings and campers took shelter under the grandstand at the Knoxville Raceway. A portion of South Street in Knoxville has been blocked off due to flooding and one vehicle was submerged with water up to its headlights. In addition, at least one home in that area on Shappell Street in Knoxville was flooded with four feet of standing water in the basement. According to MidAmerican Energy, as of 5:07am this morning there were 713 customers in county without power. The Marion County Sheriff’s office tells KNIA/KRLS news there have been no reports of wind damage at this time.
