Roads in the city of Knoxville will be painted with some additional markings this today.  The Knoxville Street Department will be installing an 8 foot wide, black and white, checked crosswalk at the intersection of Rock Island and Highway 14.  This unique crosswalk will serve as an invitation to race fans and be made of a thermoplastic material that is expected to last longer than the paint usually used for street markings.  In addition, the street department will also be adding mid-block pedestrian symbols to Main and Robinson Streets between Second and Third Streets that will serve as advance crosswalk warnings for motorists.  Knoxville Public Works Director Jeff May asks that motorists slow down and be alert when driving in these areas.
