Consecutive nights of heavy rainfall across Central Iowa is undoubtedly impacting the water level at Lake Red Rock. In the latest 24 hour period, the lake’s level increased by just over 1.5 feet, to nearly 773 feet, and is expected to continue to increase steadily.
According to figures from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the in-flow at the reservoir has climbed rapidly; from around 30,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) on Sunday, to beyond 65,000 cubic feet per second Wednesday. Out-flow at the Red Rock dam is expected to hold steady at 45,000 cubic feet per second.
The latest forecast anticipates the water elevation at Lake Red Rock to crest near 774 feet early next week.
