Knoxville’s defense rose to the occasion and took advantage of P-C-M’s mistakes deep in Panthers territory and posted a hard-fought 13-10 win over the Mustangs last night. It was a typical P-C-M and Knoxville slugfest as both teams went scoreless through the first quarter and nearly all of the second before the Mustangs got a Kody Wilke 33 yard field goal to put the first score on. However, Knoxville got great field position one of P-C-M’s three turnovers inside the Panther 30 yard line and cashed in with Dylan Schrader’s 30 yard field goal to knot the score at three at the half. The third quarter is where the game and momentum changed as Knoxville only touchdown was on a defensive score when Bryce Poffenbarger rumbled 17 yards after scooping up a P-C-M fumble to make the score ten/three.

Knoxville Coach Troy Rider said Poffenbarger’s score changed the game and gave Knoxville the needed push. Knoxville would score again on Dylan Schrader’s second field goal, this one a 25 yarder to make it 13-3. Hutch Burnes would cap off the scoring when he caught a six yard pass from Joel Wiggins to make it 13/ten. P-C-M did have one final drive as time ran out, but the Mustangs never threatened as time expired. Knoxville was lead by Shafer Brown’s 81 yards on 15 carries, while Burns lead P-C-M with 114 total yards on the night. Knoxville is now 1-0 on the season and will have a rare non-district game with County Rival Pella next week, while P-C-M playes top ranked in Class A Madrid.
