While Iowa’s unemployment average increased slightly last month, the rate of jobless workers in Marion County dropped in the month of July. According to figures released Tuesday by Iowa Workforce Development, 6.5 percent of Marion County residents were unemployed in July; down from 6.7 percent in June.

Marion County’s 6.5 percent unemployment rate is three-tenths of a percentage point lower than the state average, and three percent lower than July’s national jobless rate of 9.5 percent.
