With a week of practice in the books things are progressing well for the Pella High football team.

Coach Jay Mckinstrey says they have good numbers out for football again this fall and off season workouts went very well. He says the kids have come into practice in great shape, and are ready and willing to learn and have displayed great attitudes and leadership early on. He says despite having several key spots to fill offensively, including quarterback and running back, he’s excited with what he’s seen so far from the guys competing for those positions. He says they do have some talent and guys that will be able to do some big things, but they continue to focus on trying to find the strengths of this year’s team, and that may mean switching up the offense a bit. He says it may take a couple games to figure out those strengths and find the best fit for everybody.

Pella does return eight starters from last year’s state runner up team, mostly on defense which puts them ahead a bit on that side of the ball, but Mckinstrey says all areas are progressing well as they prepare for their season opener August 27th at Newton.
