The Knoxville City Council approved the purchase of crew quarters for the Mercy helicopter staff that will be based in Knoxville beginning this fall. The 1998, three bedroom, two bathroom mobile home will be set up on the south side of the airport and be used for base operation and resting quarters for the crew, as a minimum of 3 members will be on staff at all times. The $35,400 to purchase the home will come from the city’s General Fund but Mercy will rent the structure for $500 a month and pay for utilities. The city has a two year contract with Mercy, at that time both parties will reevaluate the situation and determine how to move forward. The helicopter crew is expected to begin moving into the space November 1st and begin 24 hour service to the area on November 15th.
