All good things have to come to an end, says retired Knoxville Police Sergeant Alvin Olivier when asked about how he felt about retiring after more than three decades of service in Knoxville. He says the 32 years he patrolled the streets of Knoxville went very fast and if he had to do it all again, he wouldn’t change a thing.

Police Chief Dan Losada says the occasion gave him mixed emotions. He says he’s very happy for Alvin and that retiring from any job is admirable and retiring as an officer even more so. Losada says Olivier will be missed and could never be replaced but he wishes him the very best and thinks he’ll really enjoy his retirement.

As for what’s next on the new retiree’s plate, Alvin says he’s not sure what the future holds. He says duties on his farm are enough to keep him busy but he’d still like to find something to do that will keep him close to the community and citizens of Knoxville. While this may be the end of a chapter, Olivier says it’s not goodbye and looks forward to keeping in touch with the people he has met over the years.
