Needless to say, last year was a very successful year for athletics at Pella High School with numerous state tournament appearences, and that has resulted in a third place finish in the Des Moines Register All Sports Trophy medium school class. Schools are awarded points based on post season success in each sport throughout the school year and whoever accumulates the most is the All Sports Champion. Sioux City Heelan won the medium school class with 53 points, Dubuque Wahlert was second with 52 and Pella was third with 40.5. Pella made state tournament appearences in football, volleyball, girls and boys cross country, boys basketball, boys golf and girls and boys track which resulted in a state championship in boys cross country, and runner up finishes in football and boys basketball and several others finished in the top five.
