With September being National Prostate Awareness month, The Pella Regional Health Center have started using a new tool to aid in prostate cancer surgeries. The Da Vinci Robot has been used for hysterectomies for almost a year at Pella Regional but is yet to be used for prostate surgery. Da Vinci specialist Brad Kruger said that it will give doctors a better view of the area by providing a 3D image that can be zoomed in up to 10 times. Kruger also said that perhaps the most important aspect is that typically after surgery, individuals report far less pain than during a typical surgery.
