The Pella volleyball team opens LHC play today at Newton.

The 5th ranked Lady Dutch are coming off another great performance at the Iowa City West tournament Saturday where they went 4-1 overall. In pool play Pella defeated Davenport North, Waterloo Columbus and Marshalltown , then got a huge win in the quarterfinals sweeping Dubuque Wahlert 2-0 , who’s ranked 4th in 3A, one spot ahead of Pella. In the semifinals Pella was defeated by Class 4A 3rd ranked Iowa City West 2-0.

Hali Steenhoek and Kelsi Rempe led Pella in kills with 36 and 28 respectively and continue to pound the ball hard, Steenhoek also had 8 blocks, while Rempe had 20 digs and 5 ace serves, and Lindsay Bentzinger had 20 kills, 29 digs and was a perfect 30-30 serving with 3 aces, and setter Brooke Fessler had 102 assists.

Pella is now 10-3 overall and all three of their losses have come to top 10 ranked teams in Class 4A. Coach Bob Fessler says the early season tournaments at Iowa City High and Iowa City West prepare them well for conference play and he hopes that will show tonight when they travel to Newton and open up defense of their LHC title.
