Running on the Central College cross country course was the only advantage that the Pella cross country teams had on Saturday, as they competed against a loaded field of teams from across the midwest at the Heartland Classic, hosted by Des Moines Roosevelt.  The girls squad performed well in the cool conditions, finishing in 11th place overall, led by a 14th place individual finish by Gabi Meirick.

In the boys race, Pella finished near where Head Coach Doug Cutler had anticipated, as the Little Dutch came in at no. 20 in the team standings.  Evan Jones had the team’s top individual finish, placing 61st.  Up next for Pella’s runners is another tough meet against large school competition, as they travel to Indianola on Tuesday.
