Central College Junior quarterback Nate Snead is the Iowa Conference male athlete of the week and three other Dutch athletes received league recognition.
Senior Defensive lineman Shane Wong is the conference defensive player of the week , volleyball libero Chelsea Grieger, a Junior from Pella, was cited as the defensive specialist of the week and Senior forward Brett McKenzie is the men’s soccer offensive player of the week.
Snead was also the league’s offensive player of the week after he passed for two touchdowns and rushed for two scores in a 28-23 victory over Augustana Saturday. Snead was Central’s leading rusher with a career-high 100 yards, becoming the first Dutch quarterback to reach the century mark in a single game. Snead connected on 20 of 30 passes for 249 yards to lift the Dutch to 2-0. His 349 yards of total offense was the second-highest output in school history.
Wong was named the league’s defensive player of the week after accounting for a career-high 3.5 sacks Saturday.
Grieger was named the league’s libero/defensive specialist of the week after the Central volleyball squad finished third with a 3-1 record at the Augsburg Invitational in Minneapolis, Saturday. Grieger accounted for 101 digs over four matches for the Dutch and was named to the all-tournament team.
McKenzie was named the league’s offensive player of the week after collecting four goals in three games for the Dutch. Three of McKenzie’s scores were game-winners and he scored both the tying and winning goals in a 2-1 overtime victory over Concordia-Moorehead Sunday. He set a new school career record for game-winning goals with 13.
