Jury selection began this week for the trial of a man who is charged with capital murder in Alabama and was brought to justice in Marion County two years ago. 24 year-old Jesse Earl Scheuing of Waycross, Georgia was arrested by Knoxville Police Officers and the Marion County Sheriff’s office on December 5, 2008 after residents notified the agencies that he was staying at the Red Carpet Motel. After his arrest, Scheuing was extradited to the Calhoun County, Georgia Jail where he has remained until this week’s trial. He is charged with the capital murder of Sean Adam Cook who was shot and killed while working at a convenience store in Oxford, Alabama in November of 2008. Scheuing also faces first degree robbery charges for taking cash from the store Cook worked at along with attempted murder charges after stabbing a fellow inmate at least fifty times with a ballpoint pen. If convicted of the capital murder charge alone, Scheuing faces the death sentence or life in prison without parole.
