Earlier this week, Gov. Chet Culver signed a proclamation that temporarily lifts the weight limit for trucks that are hauling beans and corn. Jerry Elscott from Key Cooperative tells KNIA/KRLS that this is a very good thing for farmers because it gives people the ability to move more bushels of corn per truck load. Elscott says that the typical truck load has anywhere between 900 and 950 bushels of corn and now they can transport on average 142 more. The Purpose is to move more corn during harvest to make more room in grain elevators.
