In a loaded 21-team field, the Central College men’s golf team stayed in the running after the first round of the Twin Cities Classic Saturday. Justin Livingston carded a season-best 4-under-par 68. The Dutch shot a 305 on the par-72 Elk River Golf Club and sit in ninth place, sixteen strokes behind the first round leader Carthage College. For the Dutch, . Alex Huyser shot 76, and Brent Messmore shot 80 while Jason Harvey and Drew Osier both sit with 81. The second round of the tournament will be played at the par-72 Links of Northfolk in Ramsey, Minnesota today before the 54-hole tournament concludes Monday at the Wayzata Country Club.

Recovering from a 5-4 loss to Cornell Friday evening, Central fired back Saturday with a 7-1 victory over Simpson College, clinching a fifth-place finish at the Iowa Conference women’s tennis team tournament. Three players picked up two wins on the day. Sara Dale and Steph Gibbons won at number one and two singles, respectively, before teaming up for victory in number one doubles. Emily Swartz took a number three singles win and paired with Kayla Donner in a number two doubles win. Central ends its fall season next Friday and Saturday at the Iowa Conference individual tournament in Cedar Rapids. Three flights of singles and two flights of doubles will be played.
