With the weather getting cooler it’s a good time to start pruning trees to get them ready for the spring. Sheryl Nunnikhoven, owner of Dutch meadows Garden Center in Pella says that not all shrubs need to be trimmed but if you are needing to trim a large shrub to never take off more than 1/3 of the wood. Nunnikhoven says she likes to wait until the leaves are off of the tree to prune them because it gives the tree a chance to bring the nutrients back into the roots.
