Fire Prevention Week starts on Monday and the Pella Fire Department has plenty of activities planned. Starting on Tuesday, the Pella Fire Department will be making their way to schools in Pella to teach fire safety and make sure that kids and parents know what to do in case a fire breaks out in their house. Pella Fire Chief Doug Van Gorkum tells KNIA/KRLS News that it’s important to have a meeting place outside so that everyone in the house knows where to go in case of a fire. Van Gorkum adds that it’s also very important to do random fire drills when your kids are asleep to make sure that they respond to smoke detectors.
