A low pressure system over Minnesota will cause very strong winds throughout Iowa today. The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for much of the state that is in effect until 10:00 this evening. The strongest winds can be expected this afternoon, gusting up to 60 miles per hour. As a reminder when sustained winds exceed 50 miles per hour over the Mile Long Bridge a detour route will go into effect, at which time signs will be posted directing traffic to an alternate route. KNIA/KRLS will notify you if and when the detour goes into effect.
