The Knoxville Middle School recently received an award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for meeting the challenge to make students healthier. The middle school achieved the bronze award status for the USDA’s Healthier U.S. School Challenge and received a plaque, banner, and $500 incentive for the food service account. Superintendent Dr. Randy Flack says the school received the award thanks to a combined effort by many people including the food service workers, Principal Brian McNeil, Physical Education teachers and health and wellness curriculum. He goes on to say it’s really a great accomplishment for all the staff and students at the middle school. Dr. Flack says the elementary schools received a gold award in the challenge a few years ago and he believes the district will eventually qualify for a silver and another gold award.
