The Marion County Soil and Water Conservation District and 3M Corporation have decided to dedicate the new wetland in Knoxville to a man who worked to develop conservation projects in the county for more than 20 years. The wetland, located on the west end of the 3M Knoxville plant, serves several purposes such as trapping runoff from the 3M plant, creating a wildlife habitat, improving water quality and serving as a learning laboratory for local students and community members. Along with 3M and the soil and water conservation district, the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Natural Resources Conservation Service, and Marion County Pheasants Forever have also partnered together to make the wetland project possible. The Marvin Mensching/3M wetland will be dedicated in honor of the late former District Conservationist on November 2nd.
