Marion County headlined the champions at the Little Hawkeye Conference Cross Country Meet last night at Pine Knolls Country Club in Knoxville. Pella ran away in the girl’s race to win by 52 points as the lady Dutch had six of their seven runners earn all-conference. Gabi Meirick was conference champion while Sarah Wittenberg was seventh, Abby Fyfe placed eighth, Hanna Martin came in ninth, Mariah Vande Lune placed tenth, and Christina Hibbard was 11th. Knoxville was third just seven points behind runner-up South Tama. Alissa VanKlootwyk earned all-conference for the Panthers with a third place finish. Pella Christian was eighth however, Sarah Brandsen was all-conference with a second place finish. Fans coming to see the boy’s race figured it would come down to the champion winning by a single digit margin. Knoxville made sure there was no drama as the Panthers placed all seven runners in the top 30 and waltzed to a nine point win over Grinnell and 25 point margin over Pella. Knoxville’s Jamie VanderVeer was conference champion with Timothy Shepherd in eighth, Wick Cunningham in tenth ,Alex Edwards in 11th, and Erik Ryan in 13th all earning all-conference recognition. Pella was led over the line by Zach Buchheit in second place. Other all-conference runners from Pella were, Evan Jones in 12th place and Ryan Sievers in 15th. Pella Christian finished a solid fourth as Skyler Giddings in fourth place and Josh Meyer in sixth earned all-conference honors.
