With the weather getting colder, it is important to remember to take extra care of our plants to prevent them from dying. Sheryl Nunikhoven, owner of Dutch Meadows Garden Center in Pella says that annuals such as petunias, marigolds and geraniums will be alright during the first couple of frosts because of the nice weather that is typical between frosts. Nunnikhoven says that you can cover the annuals with a sheet to prevent them from freezing. She adds that once the weather is under 29 degrees, it is time to give up on the annuals. The best thing to do when it starts freezing outstide is to pull the flowers out and put them in a compost bin.
