The new 3M wetland in Knoxville was dedicated in honor of late former District Conservationist Marvin Mensching this aftermoon. The Marion County Soil and Water Conservation District and 3M Corporation along with the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Marion County Pheasants Forever partnered together to develop the wetland which is located on the west end of the 3M Knoxville Plant. The wetland serves several purposes such as trapping runoff from the 3M plant, creating a wildlife habitat, improving water quality and serving as a learning laboratory for local students and community members. Mensching worked to develop conservation projects in Marion County for more than 20 years and the conservation district has been looking for a way to honor his dedication and thought the wetland was the perfect opportunity to do so.
